After Melbourne’s Shrine of Remembrance, Mount Macedon Memorial Cross is considered the most significant war memorial in Victoria.
That’s why an elected Liberal Nationals Government will contribute $100,000 towards the restoration of the Mount Macedon Memorial Cross.
The funding will allow for repair work to the Cross itself and the surrounding area, including repair and restoration of the urns and upgrading of lighting, cleaning and graffiti removal.
With more than 3,000 people attending the Anzac Day Dawn Service each year at the Mount Macedon Memorial Cross, the community, council and the Mount Macedon Anzac Day Dawn Service Committee have all advocated for the restoration on behalf of this historical site.
Comments attributable to Shadow Minister for Veterans, Danny O’Brien:
“We must continue to invest in Victoria’s historical landmarks, because once they are lost, they are lost forever.
Amanda Millar has been a passionate advocate for this project and a Liberal Nationals Government will continue to support our veterans with investments that benefit them and the wider community.”
Comments attributable to Liberal Candidate for Macedon, Amanda Millar:
“The historical Memorial Cross is an iconic landmark right in the heart of Mount Macedon and hasn’t received a major restoration since 1995.
The local community have given an enormous amount of time to achieve this outcome, and I am thrilled that they have been rewarded with this funding commitment.
Only a Liberal Nationals Government will be committed to supporting those who have fought for us.”
